Guitaristen Uffe Steen: Ben Webster prisvinder 2015.
 
Guitaristen Uffe Steen spiller jazz og blues på sin helt egen måde. Derfor er han genkendelig på et sekund med sine fraser på skarpsleben Fender-guitar, der har en grumset og sprød kant. Hans spil er båret af stor lyrisk fornemmelse, men han kan også eksplodere i vildskab. Hvis han vil. Det fine er, at det gør han sjældent. I stedet formår han at antyde og holde igen, hvilket giver hans spil en intens spænding, et ulmende potentiale. Han pirrer og leger med os. Derfor er han så fremragende.
Gennem sin karriere har Uffe Steen spillet med et overflødighedshorn af musikere, heriblandt Marie Bergman, Hal Galper, Tim Hagans, Joye Baron, Jeff Ballard, Lars Jansson, David Liebman, Bob Rockwell, Hans Ulrik, Alex Acuna og Thomas Clausen ud over de allerede nævnte.
Det skal lige tilføjes til Uffe Steens anerkendelse, at jeg fra min egen observering fra hans koncerter har konstateret en uhørt stor musikalsk fantasi, samt at han er en af de få musikere, der spiller totalt fri for klichéer.
Ved Ben Webster Pris-koncerten har Uffe Steen valgt at medbringe pianisten Henrik Gunde, bassisten Lennart Ginman samt trommeslageren Jeppe Gram, der ligesom kapelmesteren også stammer fra Odense – men er en helt generation yngre.
